I have never used the computer (never intsalled anything, clean registry etc.) I've heard that no matter what, I will always get better performance with a CLEAN INSTALL. My question: will CLEAN INSTALL of XP perform better than an UPGRADE install on a brand new system that has never been used?

I heard a rumor that I can use the Windows 98 upgrade then, do a clean install to accomplish a fresh copy of Windows 98 (I've heard that a clean install of Windows is always better). How about the upgrade edition? Is that like a retail edition that requires a Win98 serial number also? I'm trying to decide if I should buy an OEM or Upgrade version. The OEM version allows only a full, clean install. On the same hardware it can be installed multiple times without reactivation.

There are a lot of good reasons for this. yes, thats right, but what is when the NT-Domain have a lot of Servers and Users, than you have a hard job ;-) @Mary You can do an Inplace-Upgrade, thats not a problem. It looks like the answer is use Partition Wizard before doing the XP upgrade install. Now to find my copy of PW and install it on the W2K machine. is to pull the 80G drive. That will force the install to to the SATA drive. Then I'll clean (reformat) the 80G HD later (after hooking it up again).
